Press Release Body: MIAMI, FL (October 29, 2007) - Commedia dell'arte, a popular form of theater born out of 15th century Italy, is being brought to life once more, this time by Belen Jesuit through a modernized version of Carlo Goldoni's The Servant of Two Masters. A cross between traditional Italian commedia and postmodern vaudeville, this new version of Goldoni's classic pits the madcap servant Truffaldino against masters, mistresses, lovers, lawyers, and 27 plates of meatballs.
Translated and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher and Paolo Emilio Landi, this contemporary version of the classic work is "nothing short of brilliant. SERVANT does commedia proud! Gags, wisecracks, sly sexual references, acrobatics. this is the real thing! Imagine a Bob Hope or Woody Allen comedy written by Monty Python and performed with the physical bravura of Chaplin or Keaton." (The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) With places in the show for plenty of laughs and audience participation, this energetic production will keep audiences wanting more.
Performances will be November 7th and 8th at 7:30 p.m. and November 9th at 8 p.m. at Belen Jesuit's own Roca Theater located at 500 SW 127 Avenue. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling Ms. Clara Kline at (786) 621-4624 or at the box office starting 30 minutes before each performance. All tickets are $10 per person.
The Colegio de Belén was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba. In 1961, the Jesuits relocated the school to Miami after being exiled from Cuba by the Castro regime. They re-established the school under the name of Belen Jesuit Prep School. The school\'s love of the arts eventually brought about the construction of its Ignatian Center for the Arts which was completed in 2003. The ICA includes a theater, art gallery, music rehearsal hall, stagecraft workshop, amphitheater, and classrooms for Belen humanities students. The fully-equipped, 665-seat Ophelia & Juan Js. Roca Theater is one of the largest in west Miami-Dade County.
